Joni - How might someone thinking about an NSF proposal use this to discover what project that are similar might inform their own project design?

Thanks Alan, Great question. If you are writing an NSF proposal you might want to search on the filter by NSF program. Then narrow your search by using keywords or text field to find videos that are similar in theme to what you are trying to propose. It will be very useful to view what has been funded that is somewhat similar to what you are proposing. You may also find strategies, tools, etc. that you may want to incorporate. 

This is such an exciting project. I'm looking forward to connecting to other researchers and developers through their videos.

The multiplex seems like a good way to turn the the STEM for All Video Showcase into an ongoing resource. Will the video content come only from STEM for All Showcase participants, or will there be separate / additional opportunities for contributing? 

I'm also curious about the line "see how projects evolve over time". I'm curious as to what that might look like. How do the organizers see that working?

Patrick, hi. Yes, the Multiplex will only houses videos submitted to the showcase. In some instances projects have contributed 3 or 4 years running. If you search the Multiplex by name (for example, Barbara Rogoff) you can see videos from each year and see the evolution of her project work. This is something that is not possible within a single video showcase. In addition we have a theme each month and invite presenters who have addressed that theme in multiple years to present, provide resources, and host a discussion. So we are making progress, while still figuring things out. 

Thanks so much for providing this project!  It is wonderful to know that the videos created by my team and also by all the other project teams will have such a wonderfully designed platform to continue to reach students, educators and the public across the world, into the future!

I am excited about this project. I think it will also help to collaborate across the institutions. Do you collect ideas about how to organize panels around similar projects, or subjects etc.?

I really appreciate the opportunity to access all the videos from previous Video Showcases in the same space, and the added searching and playlist features.

I am also intrigued by the opportunity to continue the dialogue and questions to the authors of past videos - but how would one know if such a comment/question has been posted? 

Very cool way to organize our interests and share projects with colleagues related to their work.  Thank you for creating this! 

Love this project.  Such documentation across consecutive years is powerful and important for expanding progress in STEM Education.

What are some of the ways you envision the multiplex being used in say 10, 20, 30 years?  Shorter-term, I could see one-day events throughout a calendar year that encourage people to interact with the videos.  I enjoy the Video Showcase week, but it falls on a busy time in the semester and hence, I don't get to comment as much as I would like.  I could see more events throughout the year supporting greater engagement.

I wasn’t aware of the ability to see the evolution of some of these projects over time! What a great idea! I wonder if there’s a way to embed that in the framework of the multiplex, so that when viewing one year’s entry, if there are other years connected to it, you might easily be able to access them as well?

One question I have: how do we avoid a sense of overwhelm in light of so many videos. Search functions are great, but what are some user scenarios you thought about?

Within two weeks of the end of the video showcase. We will send notifications to all presenters and co-presenters when this is done.

I know how much work you have put into developing these virtual interactive information platforms and the successes you have had in doing so. In the last few years I have enjoyed searching out projects that I have interest in -either directly or just because. As the complexity and size of searchable information is finger tips away I have started to find myself wondering how to search for that information I’m really looking for. Could I ask for anything that connects …. to ….? We have come alone way from the alphabetical searches through dictionary and encyclopedias. I see one of the comments on the video notes AI potential contributions to this effort. Note: not necessarily a believer that AI has yet captured human intelligence. Wondering though what might be your thoughts on all this -or ways to keep discovering what works.

Wow, big project, Joni, and thanks for sharing.  As I was viewing the video, I was wondering if you've built in any sorts of "push" algorithms so that we could receive email invites that target us with showcased work that aligns with our "theme" interests.  So, for example, if either through our prior comments or through a short questionnaire that you could provide, participants could receive push notifications to connect with targeted themes, specific research, etc. Thanks, and I'll be interested to hear what steps you might be taking toward this.

The transparency of use of AI is a key component to successful acceptance..and  trust.  Two years ago in our STEM-for-All video we included the teachers who were working with an AI researcher.  Their use of the emerging AI evolved from the year before as those teachers had competed in Lego Mindstorms that focused on AI. The researcher came to actively work with the students’ team and was a family friend and fan of Lego Mindstorms. 

We can design AI, yet need to ensure that we continue to build the structure of trust and purposeful privacy into the application which the past years has been so careful to develop.  As a project coordinator, I filmed the  class in progress of using the apps which helped me see the continued roles of the teachers as they transitioned.  The AI developer and I designed questions to ask the teachers without offering them advanced info.  Their reactions were important to all of us as we found the next “stepping stones” through a rather precarious foot path!
