EcoXPT is a multi-user virtual environment (MUVE)-based middle school science curriculum that supports learning about the causal dynamics of ecosystems though observation, exploration, and experiment-based inquiry. During a two-week curriculum, students collaboratively explore the ecological mechanisms behind a fish die-off in a virtual pond by collecting data, making observations, and building an evidence-based explanation for why the fish died. In this video we showcase the range of simulated, epistemologically authentic experimentation tools that support students, in exploring the causal mechanisms behind the patterns that they find. EcoXPT offers students an immersive learning experience that builds engagement and self-efficacy in science inquiry and epistemological understanding of ecosystem science.
