The PhET Interactive Simulations project impacts classrooms around the world through over 130 interactive science and mathematics simulations and associated teacher resources. Here, we focus on our work to increase the accessibility of PhET simulations with the addition of auditory descriptions. In collaboration with the Inclusive Design Research Centre at OCAD University, we designed and implemented auditory descriptions that enable students to interact, explore, and learn from the simulations while using screen reader software. This work is expanding the ways students can learn from simulations and has the potential to transform the development and use of interactive STEM learning resources to create more inclusive classrooms.
