Rural Math Innovation Network

The Rural Math Innovation Network (RMIN), a U.S. Department of Education Investing in Innovation (i3) project, is a virtual networked improvement community of middle and high school teachers collaborating to help students develop growth mindsets and self-efficacy in mathematics, specifically pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. This network provides teachers with the opportunity to share and learn best practices from each other that support and grow their effectiveness in the classroom.

Teachers who participate in the Rural Math Innovation Network have formed close connections with their virtual colleagues throughout the state.   They have also have increased their knowledge of growth mindset and self-efficacy strategies. 

 It is evident that the Rural Math Innovation Network is transforming teaching and learning.  It has revolutionized the way teachers connect, communicate, and collaborate with one another. 

This innovative approach to professional learning has cultivated new ideas, inspired creative teaching techniques, and strengthened the connections between educators.  

The formative study revealed that teachers felt like their knowledge and skills have had a positively impact on their instructional practices. 

Data also reveal that there has been a positive influence on students’ social-emotional learning.  Preliminary anecdotal evidence from participating teachers indicates most students are responding favorably to growth mindset and self-efficacy strategies that teachers were introducing in their classroom instruction.  Based on initial student survey data, students have a fairly high sense of their own growth mindset and self-efficacy.

The Rural Math Innovation Network is truly innovating math instruction and students' success.
