Sensational Science Camp with Ruff Ruffman

2019 (see original presentation & discussion)

Grades K-6

Sensational Science with Ruff Ruffman Camp is based on PBS KID show series produced by WGBH, The Ruff Ruffman Show, designed to help kids learn core science concepts through videos, game-play, and hands-on activities. Starring, Ruff Ruffman, an animated canine host extraordinaire - Ruff answers questions from real kids, takes on challenges, and learns the value of failure—all while modeling science inquiry skills.

Our week-long camp experience took place in the studios of WFSU Public Media. The half day program, designed for five to eight-year-olds, immersed campers in the science inquiry and engineering design processes. The various media of the Ruff Ruffman show provided opportunities to solve problems through play and experimentation with lots of mixed materials, all the while getting exposure and practice with the science inquiry and engineering design processes. Following a recipe that includes Introducing Big Ideas, Play with These Ideas, Hands-on Exploration, Observation and Communication, there are oodles of thoughts for campers to eventually Reflect upon at the end of the camp! Our campers learned so much and had so much fun learning, we are sure some of these kids will be building and designing our future!
