Flying With Swallows

NSF Awards: 1525847

2019 (see original presentation & discussion)

Moreno Valley College, a two-year community college in Southern California, experiences an annual migration of cliff swallows. The presence of the birds inspired the development of an  undergraduate research program, Flying with Swallows, for a number of STEM courses. This proximity to birds allows MVC faculty and students to use the campus as outdoor laboratories where students can explore native habitats and examine ecological factors impacting species health and behavior.  MVC has established working relationships with the University of CAlifornia, Riverside, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and California State Parks which both support the education and research activities of the project.
