Mathematically Connected Communities - MathLab

17-924-00291 (NMPED)

2019 (see original presentation & discussion)

Grades K-6, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12, Adult learners

Mathematically Connected Communities (MC²), located in Las Cruces on the New Mexico State University campus, offers week-long summer professional learning known as MathLab. These 5-day events bring together teachers, administrators, and university mathematicians/staff to study the design and impact of student-centered math classrooms. Students in grades 2, 5, 7, and Algebra I attend a grade-specific week of mathematics learning. At the same time, the classroom experiences are video-streamed live to observation rooms, where teacher participants discuss, reflect, and collaborate on how students learn mathematics, effective pedagogical practices, and math content for teaching. This video provides a glimpse of the Algebra I MathLab experience, along with testimonials and reflections from students, Teacher Leaders, and faculty. For more information, please email Dr. Bulger-Tamez, MC² Project Director, at wguzman@nmsu.edu.
